Chamonix is beautiful in the Autumn. Less crowds means more enjoyable experiences, but also some of the facilities open in high season do close. You should be aware of what is open and what is not. Here's a little info on what's on in the autumn. It's a little more difficult to get from Geneva airport to Chamonix in the autumn. While most private transfer companies and taxis still operate, many of the shared transfer companies close for the inter-season.
Hiking doesn't need an explanation. Autumn is probably one of the most beautiful times to get up into the mountains.
While the weather remains optimum for rock climbing, you'll find the crags surprising empty.
Mountaineers still have the Aiguille du Midi until early November to take them into the heart of the Mont Blanc Massif.
Many of the restrictions for Mountain Bikers are also lifted as of September 1st, so now bikers can enjoy trails they are not allowed to ride in the summer.
Paragliders will love the fact that the
Aiguille du Midi summer paragliding ban (July and August) is lifted
September 1st and you can fly off the Plan de l'Aiguille or off the top
if you are experienced with glaciers.
