Fat Marmot snowshoeing & alpine treks is run by Kingsley Jones, a qualified International Mountain Leader / Accompagnateur en Montagne, living in Chamonix Mont Blanc. I am available to guide groups for snowshoeing during the winter, and trekking in the summer months. Also I teach avalanche awareness, expedition skills, emergency shelters (including snowholes & igloos), and mountaincraft (navigation, equipment, acclimatisation etc).
So why choose me to lead you on your trek in the Alps?
Demand - I am one of the most prominent snowshoeing and trekking guides in the area, working every day in season.
Experience - Having lived full time in Chamonix for over ten years, I know this area of the Alps like the back of my hand.
Safety - I have a perfect guiding safety record to date, but have a strong background in rescue and emergency aid.
Knowledge - As the Alps are my home, I can tell you about the local history, geology, glaciology, geography, flora & fauna.
Personal - Fat Marmot is run by me, and only I guide groups. It is not a faceless set up, so if you book me, you get me!
Focus - My aim is for you to have the most enjoyable day possible, to escape the crowds, and to discover the Alps.
I have lived in the Chamonix valley, at the foot of Mont Blanc, for over ten years so my local knowledge of this region is extensive. As well as working in Chamonix, I frequenty work in the Aosta Valley in Italy and the Swiss Valais regions, as they are close by. Each year I go on trekking or climbing expeditions to different mountainous regions around the world. My key interests are glaciology and climate change (which I studied at university in London) and snow science with particular reference to avalanche prediction and snow safety. I speak fluent French.
Please note that I only lead groups for trekking & snowshoeing. If you are looking to ascend Mont Blanc or travel on glaciers, I cannot personally lead you, as you require an IFMGA mountain guide, but I can help you organise this as I work very closely with Icicle Guides (www.icicleUK.com) in Chamonix Mont Blanc.
