What's going to happen to the Aiguille du Midi lift station?
Big plans are in store for the renovation of the Aiguille du Midi lift station by the architect, Jean-Michel Wilmotte, famous for his building in Red Square and the Grand Louvre among many other projects.
Partly to renovate the station and partly to finance their investments, the Compagnie du Mont Blanc are creating a whole new tourism-oriented centre at the Aiguille du Midi lift station near Chamonix Sud.
The district will include a residence (MGM), a hotel (Lattitudes of Pierre & Vacances), permanent homes (ICF of French Railways) and a landscaped courtyard.
Th Compagnie du Mont Blanc says that with this new construction, they "wanted to solve some housing issues for the people of Chamonix" but it looks like the majority of changes are geared towards augmenting the number of tourist beds.
