Chamonix is one of the municipalities that will see the property tax increased.
Who pays what?
The property tax on properties shall be payable by every owner and is calculated according to the rental value of that register. Varies from one municipality to another, this value is determined by the tax authorities based on several criteria, including the category of the property, its surface, its comfort level, geographic location, its extras (garage)...
Situations where you don't pay it: people over 75 years, holders of allowance for disabled adults and old-age solidarity fund. New homes are also exempt for 2 years.

The owners also have to pay the taxe d'enlèvement des ordures ménagères (TEOM), the garbage tax. This tax is paid directly to the commune where you live. If your property is rented to somebody else, this tax normally is included in the rent charges.
As for the housing tax (taxe d'habitation), which is paid by homeowners and renters, it is the subject of a separate tax notice, which arrived in mailboxes in November.
