The ski resort of La Clusaz, which usually has 2000 persons living there annually, passes in winter to 20000. The 8 doctors of this ski resort double their amount of work.
The question is, in ski resorts, the lack of doctors would be less felt than in the normal cities, where this activity is particularly attractive for young doctors?
Not so fast. Example Chamonix, the world capital of skiing and mountaineering, (10000 people all year, 100000 in high season) the Valley is facing a double phenomenon: progressive closure of the hospital and the departure of local doctors.
Five have ceased their activity during the past twelve months.
Also, an initiative of local doctors, a medical house project is under consideration in the premises of the current hospital, which since 1999 has gradually become empty. It should be a 3 parts partnership between the management of Mont Blanc Hospitals and the communes of the canton.
