Much off piste is on glacier. Crevasses are frequently covered in snow, sometimes not enough to carry a person. Just because one person has crossed a crevasse does not mean the bridge will hold for the next person. Tracks are not a guarantee of safety.

Following a group in the belief that they know where they are going may be mis-guided. Also, this practice may anger members of the group.

Mountain Guides lead groups up to 6 for most off-piste activity and 8 on the Vallée Blanche.
They have intimate knowledge of these mountains, accessing the best quality snow on the most suitable slopes.

A guide will add greatly to a group's safety by avoiding dangers and in the event of an incident, with the equipment, knowledge and communications to respond appropriately.

Everyone should ensure that their actions do not endanger others.

If any of this info is new, either hire a guide or take a one day course in Glacier Travel and Avalanche Awareness.
