Raid Millet, Chamonix, 21-24 May... Trail running, orienteering, mountain bike and much more!!!
On the last 21 to 24 of May, Chamonix had a weekend full of adventure with the 2º edition of the Raid Millet. With six differents courses available, our team the Chamedére (me, Heidi and Nico) choose to participate on the Raid Expert (two days of trail running, mountain bike and orienteering to complete 80 km’s propose) with the only objective to participate and have fun.
Our competition only started on saturday morning at 8 o’clock with the regroup of all teams in front of the Chamonix train station, to be transported to the starting place at Finhaut (Switzerland).
After a briefing about the program day, we finally started at 10 am. The beginning was a smoth climb on a easy trail to do the three first controls, to then return to the starting point and descent to the Gorges of Finhaut. A difficult descent to be followed with a hard climb to the Col de La Balme under a hot sun, to another descent to Vallorcine were the moutain bike stage started until Argentière. After reaching Le Lavancher, we finally had to do only 5 km’s of a orienteering course to finish the day at the Centre Sportif Richard Bozon.
Sunday morning, the start was at 5 am on the Centre Sportif Richard Bozon, from were we climb 1400m until the Lac Blanc. It was a slow climbing, specially after passing the Flegére when the snow started to appear. The Lac Blanc was really white, with that amount of snow that still has there, which maked possible to get down on “ski” (for somes) or “sku” (for others) at the firts meters down.
On Argentière started the moutain bike stage, that was a small circuit until Le Tour and return to start the orienteering course with the ropes activities at the end.. only had 1h30m limit to do, which was very few time and we didn’t make all the controls. To finish the competition, it was only a fast ride on the trail along the L’Arve until the Téléphérique of the Flégère where we changed for a 3 km running until the Centre Sportif Richard Bozon.
Finally finished our adventure, with the total time of 14h19m12s at 16º place.
It was a hard but amusent weekend, that toke us along nice trails and beautifull views of the Chamonix valley... our thanks to the people that make that possible to us.
