Off Piste Skiing in Chamonix - Plan d'Aiguille

Off Piste Ski in Chamonix

At the mid-station there are two off-piste runs down to Chamonix that, with good snow conditions, can give great powder skiing. Like the Aiguille de Midi this area has no marked pistes or ski-patrol, so route-finding can be complex. Also there is a big avalanche risk after a new snowfall or a thaw.

Pre du Rocher: This descends the north side of the cable car in a big arc, keeping to the left side of the Torrent de Glacier. The route joins a forest track which leads back to the Aiguille du Midi car park.

Combe des Glaciers: This starts by going south under the cables of the lift into a big bowl which can give 500m of some fantastic off-piste skiing. A forest track goes off to the right at the bottom of the bowl back down to the Aiguille de Midi car park.

Always take a guide to ski off-piste. If you have any doubts about your ability or about your knowledge of the area you should contact the local high mountain guides in the valley.
