The Chamonix Valley stretches from Servoz to Barberine on the Swiss border. The
main towns (working up the Valley from Servoz) include Les Houches, Les
Bossons, Chamonix, Les Praz, Argentiere, Mont Roc / Le Tour, and
Vallorcine.
Ski areas: Chamonix is not a ski in - ski out purpose built resort, but rather a
town which became the world capital of mountaineering and developed
into a world re-knowned ski resort. It is actually 5 ski resorts and one famous off piste lift access (the Aiguille du Midi).
The main ski lift areas (working up the Valley) are:
* In Les Houches = Les Houches, * In Chamonix = Le Brevent and the Aiguille du Midi (off
piste only) * In Les Praz = Flégère * In Argentiere = Les Grands Montets * In Le Tour/Vallorcine = Le Tour/Balme

Flégère
is interconnected with Brévent. Le Tour/Balme is connected by lift to
Vallorcine. The snowpark is in Les Grands Montets. There are other smaller beginner lift areas including Les Planards in Chamonix. For more information on the ski resorts: click here Accommodation, although most is not ski in - ski out. There is accommodation close to the Grands Montets lift area where you can "ski in" from the red Pierre à Ric piste. The bottom of Le Tour, Vallorcine and Les Houches have some chalets and apartments which could be considered "ski in." Although it is possible to "ski in" to Chamonix centre from the Brévent ski area via a black track and the Savoy nursey pistes, this is only possible with good low down snow cover (no snow making machines). Les Praz has similar "close to the lifts" accommodation. The main après-ski and night life areas are the towns of Chamonix and Argentiere.
Getting here and Getting around: Chamonix Mont-Blanc is situated 88km from Geneva-Cointrin (GVA) International airport; 220km from Lyon-St-Exupery Intenational airport and 171 km from Turin-Caselle International airport. Chamonix has a train and a bus system which run up and down the Valley. There is limited evening service during high season and no public transport after midnight.
