GPS:N 45° 56â 52â E 006° 57â 36â Direction: W Altitude: 3100m Vertical drop: 2100m Tips for take-off
Take-off is on glacier so extreme caution should be exercised.
Crevasses appear in the summer and are usually quite wide by August and
September.
The Grands Montets has the potential to be one of the best flying areas
in the world. It can also be the start of cross-country flying in the
morning.
Directions: Take the Grands Montets cable car in
Argentière to the top station. The take-off is on the Pas de Chevre
glacier facing west towards Chamonix.
Great Flying at the Grands Montets
For the advanced pilot, Les Grands Montets is "heaven" when it is at
its best. 4000m (13200ft) cloudbases can send pilots thermalling high
above such famous mountains such as Les Drus, L'Aiguille Verte and Le
Chardonnet.
Restitution flying on the Pas de Chevre and Les Bec Rouges can all be
reached from an evening launch from here. It is nothing short of
adventure flying made easy by the accessability of the Grands Montets
cable car.
