Col du Belvedere, Chamonix Ski Touring
The Col du Belvedere ski tour is a Chamonix classic. On a beautiful warm spring day, it is often possible to find untracked snow on the North facing descent.

From the Col, looking north through west the views extend into the Bérard valley and further out over the Samoens valley. South lies the formidable Massif du Mont Blanc with famous peaks such as Les Grandes Jorasses and Le Dru. The Col du Belvedere is above the Flégère mid-station on the mountain range of Les Aiguilles Rouges. Although the Col du Belvedere is an easy access ski-tour, the descent is steep and for more advanced skiers.
Access
From Chamonix, go to the Flegere ski area. After arriving at the top of the Index lift, take the Floria drag lift to the top, and traverse high right around the bowl, passing beneath the Crochues ridges. Continue on to the Lac Blanc chalet and then skin up to the Col, visible to the North, and then you reach the top of the ski tour.
Col de Belvedere: The Descent
The Col de Belvedere descent starts with a narrow 80m couloir at an angle of 40°. If the snow is unskiable a rope must be used to descend safely. The descent veers left down into the Bérard valley and continues on to the small mountain village of Le Buet at 1443m.

From here, hitch back to Chamonix or take the train through the tunnel under the Col de Montets.
Due to the remote nature of this ski-touring route, we recommend hiring a guide, and always be equipped with Transceiver, shovel and probe. Be aware of avalanche potential and snowpack conditions!
