  • The Slopes of Chamonix

The skiing in Chamonix is so diverse that there are enjoyable slopes to be found for all levels.

With 157kms of on-piste and virtually unlimited off-piste Chamonix is exceptionally popular and is also a year-round mountain town, not just a purpose built ski resort. All year round the lift system give you access to the high mountain areas around the Mont Blanc, whether for skiing, climbing, hiking, mountain biking or sight-seeing.

Have a look at the resorts below which are great for mostly low-intermediate to advanced skiers. Our gentler slopes are great for young children and other beginners.   The Chamonix Region is best known for it's thrilling Off Piste action.
  • Le Brévent

The Brévent ski station is the closest to the centre of Chamonix.  The hill from Cham centre to the bottom station is deceptively steep to walk up, especially in ski boots. The easiest way up is to catch the free bus. Parking for 250 cars.

Only 1 green run up there, so the area is a little limited for complete beginners and is more orientated towards intermediate and advance skiers.  At the other extreme, advanced skiers will find the Charles Bozon run from Brevent to Plan Praz very challenging.

  • La Flégère

La Flégère caters to almost all abilities of skiers. You can enjoy the numerous pistes as well as test out your off-piste skills with areas in close proximity to the piste. One of the most attractive aspects of Flegere is it's south-facing position.

This mountain is often bathed in sunlight till the end of the day! Since 1997 the area has been linked by a cable car to the Brevent ski area and since 2000 the area has been called Brevent-Flegere.  The car park only has 100 or so spaces, so you should take the Chambus.

  • Grands Montets

The Grands Montets is the largest and most popular station in the Chamonix Valley. An altitude of 3300m (10825ft) and north, northwest aspect guarantees quality snow, even late into the season.  Some of the best skiing can be in May!

An expansive area on the north facing slopes above the village of Argentière. The lift system can be confusing.  There are two lifts from Argentière (1260m). A quad to Plan Joran and a téléphérique to Lognan. At Lognan (1960m) there is easy access to the Bochard télécabine (2800m) and  Herse chair (2600m).

  • Le Tour - Vallorcine

Domaine du Balme is probably the best ski area in the valley for beginners and intermediates. At the bottom three drag lifts make up the Vormaine area, ideal for complete novices or children with its green and blue runs.

Off the back-side of Le Tour there is plenty of off-piste - this is arguably the favourite area of boarder's in the Chamonix Valley.

    19 pistes in total - 1 black, 7 reds and 11 blues.

  • Les Houches

Les Houches is a resort in it 's own right just inside the valley on the right when arriving from the southwest (Geneva). It is a resort without equal.  360 degree views on the Mont Blanc, good restaurants, good off piste and lots of room for everyone - skiers, boarders, telemarkers, cross-country skiers.

Pisted runs from 950m to 1900m and lots of tree line skiing - a great area for beginners and intermediates.  There are 2 short, gentle beginners slopes at the top of both the Prarion and the Bellevue cable cars (the more gentle and longer of the two is at the top of Bellevue).
