The Kandahar Ski World Cup in Les Houches, Chamonix Valley

This mythical race became the major ski event of the valley of Chamonix and it is part of the annual list of social event of the resort. It forms today part of the great World Cup ski descents along with Wengen and Kitzbuhel.

With the only slope approved for a World Cup in Haute Savoie, Chamonix and La Verte piste at Les Houches are world centres for downhill racing.

La Verte in Les Houches is "Green" only in name. A legendary track in the solid mass of the Mont Blanc, it is bordered by fir trees. The orientation of the sun often makes for a frozen piste, surrounded  by the green colour of the trees, from where its name comes.

It is in fact a black run of 870 vertical metres and 3343 metres in length. The best skiers of the world get down it in two minutes. A series of very technical passages and jumps, make this descent one of most beautiful in the world. In France, only the resorts of Val d'Isere and Chamonix (Les Houches) have a downhill piste for the World Cup of Alpine Skiing.
