    The Drus in the Winter
    You are in Chamonix, a place surrounded by mountains and their history.

    Chamonix boasts two distinct alpine areas, each with their own features and ski resorts. They are the Mont Blanc massif and the Aiguilles Rouges massif.

    In total there are five ski resorts, 157km of slopes and a lot of freeride terrain.

  • Mont Blanc Area

    The Mont Blanc Massif, was named thanks to its highest summit, the Mont Blanc (4810m).
    It's located between France, Italy and Switzerland. The Mt. Dolent, at the back of the Argentière glacier, is where are three countries meet.
     
    The Mont Blanc Massif is considered as one of the best mountaineering playgrounds in the world. There are very few places where can you find so many different varieties of peaks and routes. Rock, ice and mixed... it's all here.  Some of the most well known peaks of the Massif:
    Mont Blanc (4810m), Grandes Jorasses (4208m), Aiguille Verte (4122m), Les Drus (3754m)

  • Mountaineering in Chamonix

    Mountaineering is not a single sport, but rather a combination of mountain-orientated sports. It is also sometimes known as alpinism, particularly in Europe.

    Mountaineering covers rock climbing, ice climbing, hiking, base jumping, paragliding, ski mountaineering, etc.

    Chamonix is paradise for Mountain sports, and you'll find plenty in the Chamonix Valley to keep you entertained.

  • Trekking in Chamonix

    Chamonix is an excellent base from which to trek or hike. There is a wide range of possibilities in the area.  Start your trekking holiday with a panoramic view of the valley and neighbouring mountains. Ride the Aiguille du Midi cable car to an altitude of 3842m (12,680ft) and take in the breathtaking scenery.

    Descend by cable car back to the mid-station at the Plan de l' Aiguille and then walk the, zig-zag, wooded track back down to Chamonix (3hrs ).  You can also admire the Mt Blanc massif from the other side of the Chamonix Valley.

  • The Mont Blanc

    Mont Blanc, 4810m

    Known to Italians as Monte Bianco, the Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in Western Europe and is located between the Aosta Valley (Italy) and the Chamonix Valley (France).

    The first successful summit attempt was on the 8th of August 1786 by two Chamoniards, the crystal hunter, Jacques Balmat and a local doctor, Michel Gabriel Paccard.
