Planned closure of RD1506 between Chamonix and Argentiere, at La Poya

Planned closure of RD1506 between Chamonix and Argentiere, at La Poya

The work in the autumn of 2023 to secure the road through La Poya is ongoing. To allow the final major aspects of the work to take place with optimal speed and safety, the road through La Poya, traffic will be completely closed:
- from 31 October to 3 November between the hours of 08:30am to 1:30pm each day
- then from 6 to 9 November, between the hours of 08:30am and 1:30 pm.

In order to continue the safety work along the RD 1 506 at La Poya, this road leading to the top of the Chamonix valley will be completely closed several times. Traffic will be completely shut down from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. from October 31 to November 3, and then from November 6 to 9, at the same times. The rest of the time, a  single lane traffic light controlled alternating flow will be in effect.

This sector was damaged by the storm of 5 June 5 2022.  Many trees were felled, where others remain in a precarious state, threatening the safety of road users.  New consolidation operations will be carried out during this period of closure. A large-scale replanting operation will also take place at a later date and should make it possible to stabilise the area once and for all.

To carry out this work, in March 2023, the municipality acquired some of the privately owned plots of land adjacent to the road, where this essential clearing had to be carried out quickly. Some owners have offered the City the transfer of their plots, all of which are unbuildable, in exchange for the payment of notary fees.
