Grands Montets: Skier Found Dead After Falling from a Rocky Cliff
The initial search began late Wednesday afternoon, January 21. Around 9 p.m., the Chamonix High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) was informed by a relative of a worrying disappearance. A 55-year-old man had not returned after a day in the mountains.
The search focused on the Grands Montets area but yielded no results due to darkness. The following day, Thursday, January 22, operations resumed. Aboard the Civil Security helicopter, Dragon 74, a body was discovered on the left bank of the Argentière Glacier. According to information gathered at the scene, the skier fell from a rocky cliff below the Rachasses. The fall left him little chance of survival.
