Sunday, March 8, 2026: a very busy day for mountain rescue

Dragon 74 de la Securité Civile

With nine rescues on Sunday, March 8th alone, the mountain rescue team of the Chamonix High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) had their hands full. The first intervention took place in the Vallée Blanche for a skier with a knee injury.

Then, the Civil Security's Dragon helicopter was dispatched to various ski areas, including Mont d'Arbois in Saint-Gervais and the Balme ski area in Chamonix.

Also in the mountains, the PGHM recovered several skiers: in Crochues Bérard, on the Améthystes Glacier, at the Col du Passon in the Mont Blanc massif, and on the Glacier du Tour.

These rescues included several injuries to the legs, knees, and shoulders, as well as the loss of a ski. In short, a typical day of good weather, when the mountains are very busy.
