An avalanche has just grazed the Parsa chairlift station at Brévent

Avalanche La Parsa Chamonix Station du Brevent

The Brévent ski area remained closed this Friday, and probably rightly so, as an avalanche reached a chairlift.

More fear than harm was reported at the Brévent ski area. On the morning of Friday, February 13, an avalanche reached the top station of the Parsa chairlift in the Brévent area. It had been triggered by ski patrollers from the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc. No injuries were reported. As a safety precaution, the resort had chosen not to open. Early that morning, the ski patrol deemed the danger too high. The avalanche that struck the Parsa top station confirmed their assessment.

This incident, however, serves as a reminder of the current danger of the snowpack in the valley, where the avalanche risk was 5 out of 5 on Friday. The opening of the ski areas was therefore once again very gradual. La Flégère and Les Grands Montets only partially welcomed skiers. The Balme area (Vallorcine/Le Tour) remained closed.
