Benjamin Védrines breaks Kilian Jornet's Mont Blanc ascent record (4h54m41s)
For 12 years, Kilian Jornet's record had held fiercely, despite attempts by other athletes. It wasn't until Saturday, May 24th, that the Spanish trail legend's mark was erased by another big name in the mountains, Frenchman Benjamin Védrines.
The athlete completed the round trip from Chamonix church to Mont Blanc summit to Chamonix church on skis in 4 hours, 54 minutes, and 41 seconds, three minutes faster than his illustrious predecessor, who had achieved the feat on foot. "I only decided to do it two weeks ago because I was in Chamonix. It's a record that fascinated me, but I never thought I'd be capable of it; I really lacked the confidence to attempt it," admitted the 32-year-old climber.
