Chamonix's two main tourist attractions (the Aiguille du Midi cable car and the Montenvers train) closed for their annual break on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
The Aiguille du Midi cable car, which operated despite heavy rainfall on Sunday, will undergo several maintenance operations and will continue the work to replace the footbridge connecting the north and central peaks.
The cable car will reopen on December 20, 2025, for the winter season.
The Montenvers train will also remain in the station until November 21 for its usual two-week break, allowing the teams responsible for its operation to ensure the proper maintenance of the carriages. The Mer de Glace gondola lift also closed on Sunday. The new lift will not reopen until December 13, at the same time as the ice cave.
The Flégère gondola lift will remain open until November 11, 2025.
The good news for those eager to enjoy the fresh snow at altitude is that the Flégère gondola lift is extending its operating hours. It will remain open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. until November 11. This might just be the incentive for the most impatient skiers to put their skins back on and hit the slopes where the snow has already been quite plentiful.
