According to Radio Mont Blanc, the tragedy occurred yesterday 23rd October 2017, under the Durier Hut, at col de Miage which is topping out at 3,367m. The young mountaineer was climbing with a companion when he was swept away by an avalanche.

According to Le Parisien, his climbing partner, unharmed, tried to rescue him by making him a cardiac massage, but the young mountaineer died of his injuries a few hours after the accident.

Alerted by his friend, the Chamonix PGHM took several hours to help the victim on Monday 23rd October.

Bad weather conditions

Indeed, due to poor weather conditions, the helicopter of the gendarmes of the Chamonix PGHM could not approach the site. The gendarmes had to leave on foot and they took several hours to reach the place of the avalanche.

When they arrived, eight hours after the accident, they could only confirm the death of the young man. They came down on foot into the valley with the survivor.

The body of the young man should be recovered this Tuesday 24th October 2017, in the morning.

The victim was from Les Contamines and was a member of the Chamonix Mont Blanc Marathon club and the Chamonix Ski Alpinisme club.
