Some sunshine, clouds and foehn wind today for skiing at Chamonix. Spring snow, softer in the afternoon.
It is pretty mild this week, except in the direct wind up on the mountain. Le Tour was quite cold at the mid station, as it was windy, but the snow was soft in the afternoon, and good to ski, even though it was a bit sticky. Some parts of the Le Tour ski area were more sheltered from the wind, and when the sun was out, it was quite warm.
There was a bit of fresh snow yesterday morning up high (20cm at the top of Grands Montets), but apart from that there hasn't been much recently - mostly the persistent foehn wind and passing clouds. There are some lifts closed because of the wind, especially the access to the Flegere, but you can go across from the Brevent most of the time.
We might get some sunnier and calmer weather coming up on the weekend, and Le Tour is still open until Sunday (as well as Les Houches). When the foehn wind disappears, the Flegere access cable car should be open again.
The spring skiing should be good next week at Brevent/Flegere and Grands Montets, and we might still get some more April powder...
