More spring skiing conditions in the Chamonix valley this week. Today was cloudy, but mild with soft snow. Better light and good piste skiing at Flegere this afternoon...
Yesterday there was some great spring snow in the sunshine at Brevent, on and off-piste, and then some high cloud came in during the afternoon. There were some light showers overnight, and today was cloudy, but the temperature was warm, so the snow was soft.
Despite the clouds, the visibility wasn't too bad this afternoon at Flegere, and the pistes were nice. Off-piste the snow was sticky, as it had been warm during the night (light rain showers). We should have some more sunshine tomorrow and Wednesday, at least, with maybe better snow if it gets the chance to freeze overnight. Snow coverage is still amazing above 1800m, but avalanche risk is still pretty high outside of the controlled areas.
This week is a bonus skiing week at Brevent/Flegere, so not all of the lifts are open, but there is enough to ski, with Brevent top and Parsa, then Index and Floria and Trappe at Flegere. Brevent/Flegere opening hours are a little different this week though, opening at around 8.15am, and closing at 3.30pm. Les Houches, Le Tour, and Courmayeur are all now closed for the season, but the Vallée Blanche is still skiable with a guide.
Grands Montets is looking good too, and this week we also have the Musilac music festival going on in Chamonix town - great for Après-ski!
