A warm spring day in Chamonix, lots of sunshine and spring snow this afternoon in the mountains.
This afternoon was good at the Grands Montets, with cooler air up high, and soft spring snow, slushier in the mid mountain, and firmer higher up. This week has seen mostly sunshine, with some cloudy passages. It looked like it snowed in the mountains on Tuesday, but only a couple of centimetres, with snow above 2000m. The Brevent and Le Tour have some good skiing still, while at the Flegere they have started to tear down the cable car to build the new gondola for next winter.
In the mornings, the snow will still be quite hard, but it may be worth going up quite early to ski this weekend, as it will be busy. The weather should stay similar, with a greater chance of building cloud and showers, though no big weather systems forecast for the moment. The Pierre-a-ric piste down to the bottom is still open, but is losing snow quite fast down low, so may only have a few days left of being open, but higher up there is still tons of snow (the piste at Pendant is starting to get a bit bare in places).
It was a bit busier today than it has been, as it is the Easter long weekend, but there wasn't much waiting around for lifts in the afternoon at least. If you are planning a trip to Courmayeur for the last ski days there, though, there have been long line-ups of traffic for the Mont-Blanc tunnel. That may ease during the weekend, but watch out coming back to Framce too.
There are 3 more skiing days left of Le Tour and Brevent for this season, and after Monday the focus will be on Grands Montets for the rest of the month. There is a possibility that the Bochard might be back up and running in the next few days. There were some cabins on it today, so it looks like they are testing the fix that they have been working on recently.
