Super sunny spring skiing all week in the Chamonix valley! Since Tuesday morning we have almost had no clouds at all above Chamonix, and the spring snow has been really good. There has been pretty good refreezing of the snow overnight, and the daytimes have been very warm, so the snow gets softer throughout the day, depending on slope orientation and altitude.
The Grands Montets has had some great spring skiing in the afternoons, but it didn't really get soft until after noon or 1pm above 2000m. The Pierre-a-ric piste and all of the Brevent/Flegere have been softening a lot earlier in these conditions though.
Skiing off the Herse chairlift at the Grands Montets was good today - there were lots of people waiting for the summit lift, so we didn't go up to the very top, but there is lots of space, and very smooth snow coverage still.
There is one more ski day at Brevent and Flegere tomorrow, but it will be best in the morning, so get there early (too warm after about 1pm). Avalanche risk is still high in the afternoons, especially on or underneath steeper slopes. The weather is supposed to stay hot and sunny tomorrow, before becoming more unstable into next week...
We have another 10 days left of skiing at Grands Montets now, with the Freeride Days party on the 1st of May.
