A stunning sunny day today, after some more fresh snow in Chamonix on Friday (about 30cm of fresh powder above 2000m).
Le Tour had some wind this morning, but by the time I got there in the afternoon it was pretty calm. The fresh snow was a bit wind-affected in places, but it was mainly very soft and fluffy. There are lots of people skiing this week in Chamonix, so some pistes were getting icy, but generally conditions are really great, with lots of snow everywhere. All of the lifts at Le Tour were open today, including back at Vallorcine.
Over at Flegere, the Floria drag lift finally opened today, and almost all of the Chamonix valley ski lifts are open now, except Brevent top (ready in early January), and Planards and Savoy in the valley bottom, which should have almost enough snow now.
At the moment there is mainly sunshine in the forecast for the next week or so, but we shall see... For now, it is time to enjoy the blue sky and great snow. South facing slopes will get heavy and crusty over the next few days, but anything facing away from the sun should stay colder.
