The sunshine continues in Chamonix, broken only by some high cloud from time to time! Today was colder, with a brisk north wind in the mountains.
Le Tour felt the force of the cold north wind today, especially on the Autannes chairlift, but the air was nice and fresh and clean up there, and smelt really good! There were places to get out of the wind, around the corner towards the other side of the ski area.
Snow was very icy today, on and off piste, but there were places where softer sugary snow had collected, on the sides of the pistes, and in gullies, which made it easier to ski. It was a busy day up there, as there are a lot of people in Chamonix for New Years week, but fun.
Despite being icy, there is lots of snow at Le Tour - it is all white above 1800m, and is beautiful with the blue sky above! The snowpark is starting to take shape. There are already a few features to ride, with more currently being built. For the moment, clear weather is forecast to continue for the rest of the week, but colder, and watch out for the wind from time to time! The other ski areas were looking good today, too. Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts...
Nordic/Cross Country skiing is open right now, too, on the Chamonix valley. There is a short course around the Bois de Bouchet close to Chamonix town, and some more trails higher up at Argentiere and Vallorcine.
