Cloudy again today, with some snowflakes in the air. A perfect day to ski in the trees at Les Houches...
After a couple of days of mixed sun and clouds, it has actually been snowing lightly today in Chamonix, and up in the Chamonix mountains, but not much (only 3-5cm). With lots of clouds around, the best skiing was on tree-lined pistes.
It was cold today, but there was no wind at Les Houches - it wasn't too bad if you had the right clothes (roughly minus 8 or minus 10 degrees). The snow was a bit icy on some of the pistes, but not too bad, and most runs had softer grippy snow in places. The new snow didn't have much effect, and off-piste is generally either re-frozen rough ice, or smoother moguls, though there isn't too much off-piste to ride at Les Houches.
There was no need to wait for lifts this afternoon, despite it being reasonably busy for the start of the holidays. There are lots of nice restaurants to warm up in too, especially at Les Houches.
More clouds and light snow are in the forecast for Sunday and Monday - maybe we will get some build-up of powder, especially higher up, and then it might be clearer on Monday afternoon and Tuesday. If that happens, it should be nice in the higher ski areas, and on all the pistes of the valley, with soft snow and powder, especially when the clouds disappear!
