Another sunny spring day today in Chamonix: it has been a bit warmer the last couple of days, and the sunshine is set to continue for most of this week, with even warmer temperatures from tomorrow. The snow is good, especially on-piste, and there is still plenty of snow coverage above 1800m, or lower on shady slopes.
Le Tour was good this afternoon, especially on sunnier slopes, where the spring snow was pretty soft and slushy - the air is still quite cool though, so the snow didn't get really soupy. Off-piste was a bit rough, but where it was soft it wasn't bad. On shadier aspects, especially around the back on the Vallorcine side, the snow stayed colder and harder. Almost no wind at all today, though I heard there was a bit of wind on the Autannes chairlift a couple of days ago.
There were a lot of people around, but there were some quieter areas on the mountain, and we didn't have to wait too long for lifts today. These sunny days are great for shredding the piste or snowpark with friends, and then finding a nice sunny terrace for lunch - there are many mountain restaurants in the Chamonix ski areas.
We have now had 2 weeks of pure sunshine, as the last snowfall was on Monday the 11th February. There is possibly some active weather heading towards Chamonix later in the week, which would mean some fresh snow, so keep watching this space...!
