It is still sunny this weekend in Chamonix, before a possible snowstorm next week.
Not much has changed since my last snow report in the Chamonix mountains. The Chamonix valley ski areas have generally been holding the snow quite well through this dry spell, thanks to quite cold temperatures. The snow is mostly hard-packed, icy in places, and softening in the direct sunshine during the day, probably more at the Brévent/Flégère than anywhere else.
This afternoon at Les Houches, the pistes were nice and smooth, a bit icy here and there. The air was cold, but there wasn't any wind. The sun was shining all afternoon, and the top part of the Les Houches ski area gets a lot of sunshine, while the lower pistes are in shadow.
The weather looks like it will change after the weekend, with some low pressure waves on the horizon, bringing some clouds and welcome snowfall, from Monday through the rest of the week. Maybe we will have some more deep powder conditions in a few days!
