Sunshine and hardpack conditions continuing, with a small amount of fresh snow overnight and into tomorrow predicted above Chamonix, which should soften things up a bit.
Pistes are generally great, especially at Les Houches, and off-piste in the Chamonix valley is hardpacked, with better snow on north facing slopes.
Today at Les Houches, the sun was shining and the air was mild at 2000m when I went up at lunch time (it is colder in the valley bottom). The upper part of the Les Houches ski area has good skiing and riding conditions, and quite a bit of snow - good coverage, especially on the pistes.
It is almost 2 weeks since the last snowfall now, and there isn't a lot of snow on the lower mountain at Les Houches (below 1300m). The good skiing is down to Maisonneuve, from both Prarion and Bellevue, but the lower pistes are closed right now, and the descent back to the valley is by going back up on the chairlifts to take the cable cars down (either Prarion or Bellevue).
The weather forecast suggests a weak weather system passing over us late tonight and into tomorrow, with a few centimetres of fresh snow in the Chamonix mountains (above 1200m). Then the weekend is set to continue sunny again, into next week. There is still plenty of snow higher up, so keep enjoying the sunny skiing...
The Brevent top lift still hasn't opened today, but it is looking promising for this weekend.
