Lots more fresh snow in Chamonix today, especially up high! It was snowing yesterday, last night, and all day today in the mountains, and the snowline was around 1000m, Chamonix town level. There was at least 30-45cm of new snow above 2000m today (45cm at Grands Montets top).
After a warm and rainy day on Saturday, we got some foehn winds, but the snowstorm came in with a cold front from Sunday night, and we have some amazing soft snow conditions today all over the Chamonix valley, especially above 2000m (a bit icy below 1800m).
Today at the Grands Montets the visibility was not too good, but the powder was deep, and it was snowing all day. There wasn't too much wind, except for a bit right at the top, so everything could open, even the top cable car (after some delay for avalanche control).
Tomorrow should be a sunny clear day, but warm in the afternoon (so high avalanche risk with all the new snow), so it should be an awesome day everywhere. Be careful of steep uncontrolled terrain, especially in the sun. Groomed pistes should be really nice tomorrow too, especially at Brevent/Flegere/Le Tour, in the sunshine.
There is another weather system due to pass over us on Thursday... this active-weather winter continues!
