More sunshine today in Chamonix, but with some fresh snow from Friday and cooler temperatures, the skiing conditions have been a bit more wintry!
In the end it turns out that it snowed about 20/25cm of light powder above 2000m on Friday afternoon and evening, with a dusting in Chamonix town too. This meant that Saturday had some fresh powder snow in all of the Chamonix ski areas, with some hazy sunshine, and conditions were similar today, but with a bit more blue sky. The new snow was great quality, although you could feel the ice underneath for the most part. It has softened things up for skiing, and it was nice to ski fresh snow for the first time in almost 3 weeks.
The wind in the high mountain has been picking up this evening, ahead of the next active weather: tomorrow there is another storm front approaching, with predictions of another 20-30cm of fresh snow in the mountains and high winds, so we will see...!
Todays video is an overview of today's conditions, including some footage from the Vallee Blanche (Mountain Guide necessary to avoid crevasses - we saw some sketchy ones today!):
