Closing day at the Grands Montets on Monday did turn out to be a powder day, with 30-40cm of light fresh snow, and snow showers for most of the day! This winter ended as it began, in a Chamonix snowstorm.
Winter 2016-17 turned out to be not too bad in the end, despite the long periods of clear sky and sunshine. We had a fair amount of snowfall at each end, and in the middle, which saved our snowpack, and meant we could at least ski all winter, even though during the dry spells there were rocks and ice to deal with. There is always adventure in Chamonix!
Later on, we had some great spring skiing conditions, as the sunshine stayed with us, and now in the last few days, we have had some more great fresh snow.
The Grands Montets closing day party was great, with fresh powder, and good music and good vibes. There weren't so many people, but it got a bit warmer in the afternoon. Above are some photos from Monday May 1st, at Grands Montets.
Hopefully next winter will be a bit more consistent, with lots more snow... Meanwhile, thanks to everyone in Chamonix for a great winter season. Here is a highlight video from this winter of 2016-17:
