Lac des Chavants Lake in Les Houches Fishing in Chamonix

To fish in Chamonix and in the Haute Savoie region, you must have a permit to fish in the lakes or in the rivers. You can buy a day or fortnightly permit at the Gaillands lake chalet or at the tourist office in Chamonix, Les Houches, Argentière, Servoz or Vallorcine.

Fishing in the Lac des Chavants (in Les Houches)

Lac des Chavants is a lake ideal for fishing and short family walks. The season runs from mid-June to mid-September (reference dates).

  • Open every day except Monday, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays, except on public holidays.
  • Lake fishing: coarse fish and trout
  • Pay by the kilo (15 euros/kg)

Fishing in the Lac des Gaillands (Chamonix)

Lac des Gaillands is located on the banks of the Arve River in Chamonix, at an altitude of 1,017 m. It is home to a large population of brown trout, rainbow trout, and also a fairly high density of California crayfish, which can be caught with a scale.

  • From 03/09 to 10/05 every day.
  • Accessible to persons in possession of a fishing license
