With current temperatures dropping to -15 degrees Celsius every night, bodies of water are frozen solid almost everywhere.
However, the municipality of Chamonix reminds everyone that walking, skating, or skiing on frozen lakes is strictly prohibited. "Ice is never reliable, even when it appears thick or has already been crossed by others." This primarily concerns Lake Gaillands, but other bodies of water within the municipality are also affected. Chamonix emphasizes that the danger is deadly.
Individual responsibility
"A fall into icy water can have serious consequences in just a few minutes." Similarly, "testing the ice by throwing stones or branches is also prohibited: this weakens the surface, endangers other users, and can make you liable in the event of an accident," the municipality states.More info: https://www.chamonix.fr/actualites/interdiction-de-circuler-sur-les-lacs-geles-a-chamonix-mont-blanc/
