Milan - Chamonix by Train: the Route
The rail route heads north out of Milan, passes along the Domodossola Valley and through the Simplon Tunnel into Switzerland. Change at Brig and take the train to Martigny, traveling west along the Rhone Valley. Alight at Martigny and take the Mont Blanc Express over the mountains to Chamonix.
The duration of the journey depends on the connections and this varies depending on the time of day. The minimum time on all trains is 4 hours and 11 minutes.
From Milan, there is an alternative departure out of Garibaldi Station, on a slow local train, that requires a change at Domodossola.

At Milan Central Rail Station buy a ticket through to Martigny. The price of the ticket from Milan to Martigny is €68,00 but it may vary.

From Milan Central to Brig, the journey time is 1 hour and 51 minutes.
From Brig to Martigny, the journey time is 50 minutes.
At Martigny station, buy a ticket for the Mont Blanc Express to Chamonix Mont-Blanc.
The journey duration from Martigny to Chamonix is scheduled as 1 hr and 30 mins. Check the timetables from 11 December 2016 to 2 April 2017.
Due to the work on the Mont Blanc Express Railway there is a rail replacement bus service between Vallorcine Rail Station and Argentiere Rail Station.
Mont Blanc Express
The Mont Blanc Express is a mountain train service that runs between Martigny, in the canton of Valais, Switzerland, and Le Fayet (Municipality of Saint Gervais) in the Haute-Savoie of France.
The train passes along the west side of the Mont Blanc Massif and takes the traveler on a spectacular journey with many interesting points to stop and explore.
