Ski mountaineering in Chamonix, a new youth section!

Ski Alpinisme Chamonix, section jeunes!

Teenagers in the valley now have their own ski mountaineering group.

Until now, teenagers in the valley interested in ski mountaineering had nowhere to learn. The Chamonix Sports Club's ski mountaineering section has now opened a dedicated group for them, led by high-mountain guides, where technique and safety take precedence over performance.

Every Wednesday, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., the young people in the brand-new ski mountaineering section of the Chamonix Sports Club meet at the speed skating oval. Running, walking with poles, core exercises, plyometrics… Physical training that will continue until early December, depending on the snow conditions.

As soon as the first snow falls, the sessions will be extended, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at La Flégère, Le Tour, Argentière, or Les Houches, depending on the conditions. Participants will learn how to use climbing skins, link transitions, carry their skis on their packs, and pace themselves. Then comes the descent!

Six four-hour outings, led by guides, will take young people on easy, gently sloping routes. This will be an opportunity to learn about avalanche transceivers (DVA), meteorology, and first aid, and even to watch a race like the Pierra Menta. Three additional courses will be offered during school holidays, including a three-day trip to Tignes during the All Saints' Day break.
