The grim discovery was made around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, January 12. About twenty meters upstream from the Chamonix Centre train station, a person was found dead along the railway tracks.
According to initial reports, the person appears to have been electrocuted by the electrified third rail of the Mont-Blanc Express. The circumstances of the tragedy remain unclear. It seems that no witnesses were present. A police investigation has been opened to determine the cause of death and whether it was accidental.
The Mont-Blanc Express train in the Chamonix Valley covers 55 kilometers of track between Le Fayet and Switzerland.
