Among the ten rescue operations carried out this Thursday, July 2nd, by the Chamonix High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon, one involved a 62-year-old Swiss paraglider who crashed in the Combe du Brévent. Transported to the hospital in Sallanches, he did not survive.
Another person died in the mountains: a British mountaineer who fell while rappelling. The rocky outcrop to which he had anchored his rope on the Petit Flambeau peak toppled into the void. The 69-year-old man was swept away and died instantly.
In addition to these two deaths, an 80-year-old hiker suffered a cardiac arrest in the upper reaches of the Les Houches ski area, in the commune of Saint-Gervais.
Finally, another mountaineering accident occurred. A person fell 250 meters on Mont Maudit. Suffering from multiple injuries, she was transported to the hospital in Annecy.
