The Montenvers train and the Mer de Glace gondola lift are both closed until 23 May 23 2025
Since Monday, May 12, the Montenvers sitehas been closed to the public. The departmental authority in Annecy that operates the little red cogwheel train has closed this tourist line to carry out major maintenance work on the infrastructure. As a result, until 23 May inclusive, no trains will run.
The entire Mer de Glace site, including the gondola operated by the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, will be shut down until May 24. Then, until 30 May, the gondola lift from the Motenvers station to the glacier, will only be accessible to mountaineers on a very limited schedule of between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The ice cave will remain closed until May 30.
The ice cave and the gondola lift will reopen without restriction to all audiences from 31 May for the whole summer through to the evening of September 28.
The Montenvers train is expected to operate until November 2, when it will close for the annual planned maintenance.
