During the closure of the descending road between Chamonix and Le Fayet, two-way traffic is restricted on the viaduct, normally reserved for the ascent to Chamonix and the Mont Blanc Tunnel.
The closure will continue for several more weeks. The Haute-Savoie prefecture announced this Saturday that safety work on the Egratz road, closed since the terrible accident on August 20th (two deaths and two injuries following a rockfall), would continue.
The stated objective is now to restore traffic "by November." According to the authorities, the latest expert analyses "raise concerns about the existence of residual instabilities following the rockfall and require in-depth inspections and additional safety measures."
