Seven new trains for the Mont-Blanc Express starting in autumn 2026
Blue towards France, red and white towards Switzerland: the future trains of the Mont-Blanc Express will be a compromise between the two countries. Seven Z890-type trains, four for France and three for Switzerland, will gradually enter service between summer 2026 and next autumn on the Le Fayet – Martigny line.
Designed by the Swiss manufacturer Stadler, they must adapt to the line's specific technical requirements: adhesion traction on the French side, a rack-and-pinion system on the steepest inclines in Switzerland, and different power supplies depending on the country. The trains will offer 224 places, including 99 seats, a largely flat floor to improve accessibility, and facilities adapted for skis and bicycles. The investment amounts to €55 million.
