A rockfall occurred overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday on the road between Chamonix and Martigny, before Trient. The road will remain closed for at least a day. It is therefore impossible to reach the Col de la Forclaz and Martigny from the Chamonix valley.
During the night of Tuesday, December 9th to Wednesday, December 10th, at approximately 11:45 p.m., a rockfall occurred on the mountainside overlooking the Martigny-Chamonix road, in the isolated area between the edge of the village of Trient and the Tête-Noire tunnel. About ten blocks, each approximately 0.8 cubic meters in volume, tumbled down to the road, without causing any injuries.
According to the Valais cantonal road authority, the road will remain closed all day Wednesday. A possible reopening on Thursday, December 11th, will be announced later.
