Since Sunday, September 21st, the Egratz Viaduct has been closed to traffic following another rockfall on the RN205. As a result, all traffic has been diverted onto the RD13 between Passy and Servoz, causing traffic jams and delays. This reorganization of traffic flow is also impacting businesses in the Chamonix Valley.
Nearly 12,000 vehicles use it daily. This figure rises to 16,000 when the Mont Blanc Tunnel is open. The rockfall that occurred late on September 21st, at the "Parking des Gures" rest stop, led to a road closure while safety work was carried out.
And as these clearing operations require equipment to be dropped off by helicopter and the weather this week is proving particularly unfavorable, the Egratz viaduct will remain closed to traffic until Friday, September 26, at a time yet to be determined.
